September 10, 2010- En Route to Washington and Lee University
A sad, fun night last night. I made the trip home after an early show in Minnesota for a late dinner with friends and family and a night in my own bed for once. This doesn’t happen very often in tour season and it’s disorienting to fall from the world of rental cars and hotel rooms into the world that I live in for the other five months of the year. The fact that I had to leave my house at 4:30 this morning to catch the first flight doesn’t help with the disorientation and last night feels like a surreal, wonderful dream.
Tonight will be my 6th consecutive year performing at Washington and Lee University and, given the mediocre show in Minnesota a few nights ago I am ready for another shot at getting it right.
Airports do a great job of making everywhere else in the world feel comfortable. I have a four hour drive ahead of me after landing in Charlotte, which sounds like a lot but will probably be really relaxing. The thought of having four hours where all I have to do is listen to music and watch North Carolina and Virginia go by out the windows seems pretty good right now.
Side note: It’s astonishing to me that the last entry from this journal is from September 1st. Show season completely disorients my sense of time and it will be November before I know it. In a way, it’s sort of November now.
